Beginner African Hand Drumming Classes
This series is intended for adults who are new to djembe drumming or have limited experience. Under the excellent tutelage of long-time drum lovers Deanne Mineau and Trish Smiley, participants will explore simple rhythms and get comfortable with the drum over the course of ten 45-minute classes.
The process of drumming is about more than creating rhythms. Drumming relieves stress, while connecting us to ancestral rhythms. The Djembe allows us to develop musical skills, create new pathways from heart to head to hands, and develop the bonds of working with a group of lovely folk. There will be a continuous flow between the teacher of the next levels, Monica Hofer, and Trish and Deanne, so that the Drumming courses mesh, and students can progress from one level to the next when they are ready.
A limited number of rental drums are available for $5 per day. For all ten sessions, the cost of renting a drum would be $50. Rental drums cannot leave the facility. If you choose to bring your own drum, please ensure that it is a djembe.
