Beyond beginner guitar

Program Information

Join Sterling and learn guitar! Sterling has been playing guitar for over 20 years and wants to share his passion for music and life with others.

Beyond Beginner Guitar is intended for those who have already taken the Beginner Guitar program with Sterling
. If you have not taken Beginner Guitar, but are interested and have some equivalent experience, you are welcome to sign up.

To be on the same level as the other Beyonds, you should have a basic understanding of the following:

  • Parts of guitar
  • Name of strings, posture, terminology (frets, notes, finger placement for chords etc)
  •  Knows all 8 open chords G, D, C, Em E major, A minor, A major, and D minor, and can play them.
  • Be able to switch from one chord to another smoothly (slow is ok).
  • Have some understanding of rhythm (understands the rhythmic value of notes (whole, 1/4, 1/2, 8th, 16th notes)
  • Know how to play a few beginner friendly songs.
  • Have understanding of strumming patterns and knows a few already.
  • Can play with a pick, and/or thumb/fingers.

Sterling is on a mission to prove to you that with consistent practice and a willingness to learn, you will improve and thank yourself later. In this hands-on class, you'll learn to pick out tunes by ear and be introduced to a variety of chords and strumming patterns. Sterling will demonstrate the part and have the group follow along. The course will include a very small amount of theory, but will primarily focus on practical learning.
